Shannon is a Master's prepared Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
I have twenty years experience in the mental health field, including a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Nevada, Reno. I began this adventure working with at risk youth and transitional age youth in a variety of settings. I have six years experience implementing therapeutic interventions through individual, group, and family therapy and four years experience as a supervisor and administrator where my responsibilities were program and organization oversight. I created and implemented programs for treatment level youth ages 3-17 and developed curriculum for all ages to be implemented in day treatment programs. I was also the Interim Executive Director of a group home for young, homeless, pregnant women. I have helped with foster and adoption in outpatient settings working in the home and community. In addition to children, I have assisted adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma, including helping parents gain the skills needed to successfully parent challenging children and of course, couples counseling.
My approach to counseling draws from several theoretical orientations because I believe that healing comes from the cross. My counseling is shaped by a systemic understanding of the families’ and or clients’ individual needs. The modalities include but are not limited to cognitive behavioral, client-centered, strength based, attachment theory, and emotional focused therapy which provide a framework to create opportunities for clients to move toward changes in their lives.
I am Trained and certified in CBT plus for Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, and Behavior. Additional training in: Implementing CBT plus for trauma with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, “Trauma Attachment and Neuroscience”, “Attachment-Focused EMDR”, and ” Play Therapy: Innovative Attachment-based interventions to Treat Trauma, Emotional Dysregulation, and Behavioral Challenges.”
I love to learn and find myself spending my spare time listening to other professionals through podcasts and other media forms. My passion is teaching people to communicate with the ones they love through learning their own attachment style. There’s nothing more miserable than feeling unheard and misunderstood.
When I’m not being a big nerd and listening to other people talk about therapy, My first love is to spend time with my husband and 3 boys. We enjoy sharing our music and movie Interests with each other.
My absolute favorite thing to do for my own therapy is enjoy the animals on our hobby farm. It’s no secret I prefer the ducks and their amazing personalities. We also have chickens and goats, and a very sweet mini lop rabbit. Not to mention our house is full of four legged fur babies.
